Yerevan has no military forces to defend Karabakh – head of Armenian Parliamentary Commission
Baku/20.10.22/Turan: As a result of the 44-day war, Armenia was deprived of the opportunity to protect the population of Karabakh by military means. This was stated by the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan in an interview with Public TV of Armenia on October 19.
If there were no Russian peacekeepers, there would be no Armenians left in Karabakh, he said. "We must clearly and realistically assess the resources that are on the table, we are talking about political and diplomatic resources, maximum involvement of the international community," Aghajanyan said.
According to him, he told the American congressmen about this as stressing that if international mechanisms do not work in Karabakh, ethnic cleansing is inevitable, and at best mass emigration will occur.
Therefore, Armenia should make efforts to ensure maximum representation of the international community in Karabakh.
"It is very important for Armenia to arm itself, to restore the balance of regional forces, but this is a long process. At the moment we need political solutions, mediators with great political influence who will guarantee agreements," Aghajanyan said. -02D-
