13 activists join hunger strike in support of Yagublu and Hajiyev
Baku/10.01.23/Turan: Five more activists have joined the hunger strike in solidarity with opposition politician Tofig Yagublu, and the total number of participants in the action has reached 13. PFPA activists Gunel Babayeva and Gulnara Rahimova joined the hunger strike today. They joined Maya Yagublu, the politician's wife, who has been on hunger strike since January 7.
Today, members of the PFPA, Tavakkul Hasanov, Ismailiddin Gasimov and Zekrulla Nagiyev, began a hunger strike at the headquarters of the "Musavat" party. They joined Seymour Ahmedsoy and Elnur Guliyev, who have been on hunger strike since January 8, who have been holding a protest since January 8 in Yagublu's house.
On January 9, PFPA activists Babek Hasanov, Alizamin Salayev, Jeyhun Novruzov, Alizamin Kazimov, Sakit Mammadli, Tofig Mammadov and "Musavat" Party member Aziz Mamiyev joined the hunger strike.
Today, the hunger strikers at the "Musavat" headquarters were examined by ambulance doctors and no serious health problems were found among the activists. The protesters demand the release of Tofig Yagublu, public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev and other political prisoners.
“So far, there has been no response from the government to our demands. We were visited by human rights activists and social and political activists and they expressed support for us,” said Babek Hasanov, a participant in the action.
T. Yagublu's wife, Maya Yagublu, who has been on a hunger strike since January 7, said that she started having pain in her kidneys. “However, I did not go to the doctor. There has been no response to our requests yet. Today I will visit those who are on a hunger strike at the headquarters of the "Musavat" party,” Maya Yagublu said.
* Tofig Yagublu, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces and the "Musavat" Party, was detained on December 23 at a protest rally in central Baku demanding the release of public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
On the same day, the Sabail court arrested him for 30 days on charges of hooliganism and insubordination to the police. On January 5, the Baku Court of Appeal upheld this decision. In protest, Yagublu went on a hunger strike.
* * Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release from custody. On the evening of December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent appeals from members of the public and family members. However, on January 9, Hajiyev resumed his hunger strike, after the appeal court once again rejected his arrest complaint. ---B06---
