Baku/09.10.23/Turan: Customs officers found slightly more than 1kg of methamphetamine in a parcel sent from Azerbaijan to New Zealand in three packages.
The press service of the Main Customs Committee has reported that a criminal case was initiated under Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling), 234.4.1, 234.4.3 (illegal trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
In the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified. He was detained and taken into custody on the basis of the charge, his name is not reported.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
