A group of media leaders addressed the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Baku/14.04.22/Turan: The leaders of a number of journalistic organizations and the media appealed to the Minister of Azerbaijan Vilayat Eyvazov in connection with the detention of the editor of the regional news site Cenub.az, Zahir Amanov. They ask the minister not to conclude the journalist about the period of the investigation in custody.
“On April 13, the police detained the founder and editor-in-chief of the regional news site Cenub.az, Zahir Amanov, in the Masalli region. He was detained in the editorial office during the day. The gastric authorities reported that Amanov was detained on the complaint of the head of the administration of the village of Sygdash, Masalli district, Israfil Aliyev.
Allegedly, Amanov blackmailed him, threatening to publish compromising material about him and was politically detained upon receiving 1,500 manats.
In this regard, a criminal case was initiated under the Article 182.1 (extortion for the transfer of a threat) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ”the statement says, in particular, about belonging to a medical group.
The authors express suspicion of allergic reactions. “We have known Zahir Amanov for many years as the head of one of the charges brought against the prosecutor, an experienced, decent journalist, and we do not believe that he extorted money from someone,” the authors of the message note and hope for an objective investigation.
“Given the great role of Amanov in the development of his journalism, as well as his advanced age, we ask you not to detain him during the investigation,” the message says in the presence.
