A group of Wolt couriers continue their strike
Baku/06.09.22/Turan: A group of "Wolt" couriers, a food delivery company, continues strike for the 6th day. An activist of the Trade Union, Afiyaddin Mammadov, told Turan on September 6 that the strikers had three main demands:
1) For two orders that are close to each other, they must be paid as two separate orders;
2) The delivery rate should be increased from 3 gapiks for every 100 meters to 6 gapiks;
3) WAZE or Google maps must be used as a delivery map.
“Until these demands are met, the strike will continue,” said Afiyaddin Mammadov. According to him, out of 2,000 couriers, 1,200 are participating in the strike.
On August 29, 'Wolt" reduced payment to couriers for delivery. According to the couriers, two years ago the standard payment for the delivery of one order at a distance of 1 km was 1.9 manats. Now it has been reduced to 1.6 manats. "Wolt" courier service has been operating in Azerbaijan since 2019.
The start of the strike, "Wolt" company representative Tofik Suleymanov said that according to the new payment model, the distance traveled by the courier to the restaurant/shop is calculated using the navigator. Previously, the distance was calculated in a straight line, but now along the route set by the navigator.
According to Suleymanov, the new system was introduced at the request of the couriers themselves. He also denied claims that when two orders are delivered to the same address, the courier only gets paid for one order. According to the manager of the company, the average hourly income of the courier remains within 5-6 manats.
“This means that the average courier earns 40-50 manats for 8 hours of work during the day,” Suleymanov said. According to him, the innovations were not intended to reduce the income of couriers. --0--
