A new trial began in the case of Tale Bagirzadeh
Baku / 27.01.18 / Turan: A preparatory meeting on the new criminal case against the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity" Tale Bagirzade, who is already serving a 20-year prison sentence, was held yesterday in the Garadagh District Court. Bagirzade was arrested on November 26, 2015 during a special operation conducted by the main department for combating organized crime in the Interior Ministry in Nardaran.
Together with a group of associates, he was accused of committing a number of serious crimes, including terrorism, an attempted violent change of the constitutional order, murders (policemen during the operation in Nardaran) and sentenced to 20 years in prison. In the end of December 2017, a new charge was brought against him under Article 317-2.1 (illegal storage of prohibited items in the penitentiary institution or in the pre-trial jail) of the Criminal Code.
According to the investigation, during the inspection on July 31, 2017 in Gobustan prison, he found 7 units of memory cards such as "micro SD". However, the expertise did not discern in their content the information forbidden by the law, since the Koran, the Interpretation of the Koran and other information were written on the maps. Bagirzade also pleaded not guilty.
Attorney Fariz Namazli petitioned for the termination of criminal proceedings.
However, the judge dismissed the petition. According to the lawyer, Bagirzadeh said about the political motives of the charge. According to him, memory cards are used in any prison institution.
"Apparently 20 years of the term they thought little, came up with a new deal. The whole charge is the result of the investigator's imagination," Bagirzadeh said. Judicial hearings on the merits are scheduled for February 6. -06D-
