Action in Defense of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners in Germany
Baku / 03.09.17 / Turan: An action was held, demanding the release of political prisoners in Azerbaijan, in Duisburg, Germany on September 2.
The action, which was attended by about 40 Azerbaijani political immigrants living in various cities of Germany, was organized by the activists Parviz Abdullayev, Ali Hasanaliyev and Rovshan Jabbarov.
According to Abdullayev, the purpose of the action was to inform the international community about the presence of 165 political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
The young activist stressed there are no traces of democratic environment in Azerbaijan, and those who criticize this situation have either been thrown into prisons or have fled the country.
The head of the website www.bizimtribuna.info Farida Huseynova stressed that for political reasons representatives of political parties, NGOs, media and business circles were arrested. She drew particular attention to the presence among the political prisoners of youth and women, specifically calling the youth activists Ilkin Rustamzadeh, Giyas Ibrahimov, Bayram Mammadov and Fuad Ahmadli, deputy chairman of the Popular Front party Gezal Bayramli, the journalists Mehman Aliyev and Aziz Orujov, the blogger Rashad Ramazanov and others.
After informing the citizens of Germany that joined the rally about the political situation in Azerbaijan, Huseynova read out an appeal to international organizations. It calls for demanding Azerbaijan to fulfill its international obligations in the field of human rights and for adopting strict decisions in this direction.
