Action of citizens before the anti-corruption department of the Prosecutor General's Office
Baku / 21.08.20 / Turan: A group of citizens gathered on August 21 in front of the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General. People complained about deception by the construction company ОООzizbəy KM LLC.
In 2014-2016 they purchased apartments in a building under construction, paying 30-40 thousand manats each. However, the apartments were sold out to several buyers at once. Even after initiating an investigation against the company, the company continued sale of apartments.
Deceived citizens believe that the firm has high-level patrons. “We, 30 injured families, have repeatedly appealed to the presidential administration. A year ago, we wrote to the General Directorate for Combating Corruption, but still have not received an answer. The Constitution says that if a citizen is deceived by an official, then the state must compensate for the damage. Two weeks ago we were told here that this had nothing to do with them and that they could not help us.
Now we want to receive an official response to our letter. We have no other way but to go and ask for asylum at foreign embassies, ”said one of the protesters. After that, the group of protesters was accepted by the department, saying that the prosecutor's office would not deal with this. “We are told why they bought apartments in a building where they do not issue a title deed. However, this practice exists everywhere in Baku; what should citizen do? If it is illegal, why do the authorities allow it? ”asked another protester. The action ended without incident.
The head of the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office Gunay Salimzade refrained from answering the question, who will compensate the damage to citizens?
“If during the investigation, the investigators manage to ensure compensation for damage, then the money is paid. No one can say whether the funds will be reimbursed in full or in part. It depends on the financial situation of the arrested, their ability to pay. The investigative body is doing everything possible to ensure that the payments were made in favor of citizens, ” Salimzade said. –21С06-

On a brisk November evening, the residents of Baku gathered along the waterfront of the Caspian Sea, stunned by what appeared to be the washed-up body of a colossal whale. At 16 meters long, the creature’s seemingly lifeless form and pungent odor left many convinced they were witnessing an ecological tragedy. By that night, however, the mysterious visitor had departed, loaded onto a cargo platform and whisked away to the airport.
