Activist deported from Turkey intends to seek clarification
Baku/22.04.21/Turan: Public activist Giyas Ibrahimov appealed to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in connection with his deportation from Turkey.
Ibrahimov told Turan that five months ago he received a residence permit in Turkey for a period of one year. He recently came to Azerbaijan for a visit. When he again arrived in Turkey, at the airport, he was told about the ban entry into the country for three months and Ibrahimov had to return.
On Wednesday, the Turkish consulate in Baku told the activist that he was banned from entering the country for life. The reason for this was not explained.
Today Ibrahimov appealed to the Turkish Embassy, where the ban was confirmed also without explaining the reason and was recommended to contact the Turkish Migration Board.
“We will hire a lawyer in Turkey and we will deal with this issue. I also called the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, where it was recommended to apply in writing,” Ibrahimov said.
He also said that he still had not received compensation awarded to him by the European Court of Human Rights in the amount of 36 thousand euros.
Giyas Ibrahimov together with other activists, Bayram Mammadov, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for painting a monument to Heydar Aliyev in the center of Baku in 2016 with political slogans. They were both pardoned three years later. -21В06-
