Adoption Procedures Simplified for Local Citizens, More Complicated for Foreigners
Baku/10.03.21/Turan: At a meeting of the Milli Mejlis held on March 9, amendments were made to the Family Code, which facilitate the process of adopting children by their relatives.
In particular, the requirements for conducting training for persons receiving children have been canceled as well as probationary period for children in the home of foster parents and selection of children and parents that match each other.
At the same time, amendments to the Civil Procedure Code were adopted, according to which additional documents will be required from them when children are adopted by foreigners or stateless persons.
From now on, along with permission from the parents, the consent of the authorized state body of the state of which the child is a citizen will also be required.
According to the Ministry of Justice, in 2019, 660 children were adopted, including 345 boys and 315 girls. At the same time, 8 girls and 14 boys were taken into their families by foreigners. 175 adopted were under 1 year old, 296 - 1-5 years old, 115 - 6-10 years old, and 74 - 11-17 years old. –06D-
