Afgan Mukhtarly and Gezal Bayramli Kept in Poor Conditions - Lawyer
Baku / 22.06.17 / Turan: The lawyer Elchin Sadigov met with the journalist Afgan Mukhtarly and deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Gezal Bayramli in the Kurdakhany detention center on June 21.
As Sadigov wrote on his Facebook page, he was not allowed to transfer Mukhtarly the phone number of his wife so that he could contact her.
In addition, Mukhtarly was withdrawn his watch, stating that wearing a watch was prohibited. However, according to the lawyer, there is no such restriction in the legislation.
Mukhtarly complained about the conditions of detention. "Afgan said he is kept in such conditions that it seems to be the Gestapo," the lawyer said.
Bayramli complained about serious health problems. "Gezal Bayramli was treated with a diagnosis of atrophy of the jaw joints. She needs serious treatment and suffers from other diseases. In her blood, negative indicators have been found. So far, she has not received serious medical care. After our appeal they said they will conduct a medical examination," the lawyer writes. According to him, Bayramli"s illnesses worsened from forced immobility in the cell.
* Mukhtarli was abducted in Tbilisi on May 29 and transferred to Azerbaijan, where he was arrested on charges of illegally crossing the border, smuggling and the use of violence against a border guard.
Bayramli was arrested on her return from Georgia on charges of smuggling on May 25. Both reject the charges, considering them politically motivated. -03B06--
