Afghan Sadigov went on hunger strike in jail
Baku/11.07.20/Turan: A preliminary investigation in the case of the founder and editor of the news site Azel.Tv. Afghan Sadigov completed.
On July 10, in the presence of lawyer Elchin Sadigov, investigator Emin Aliyev announced the transfer of the case to the court. According to the final decision of the investigation, Sadigov is charged under the Article 182.2.1 (extortion by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) and 182.2.4 (with the purpose of taking possession of property in a significant amount) of the Criminal Code and it faces 5 to 10 years in prison, Turan was told by his wife Sevinj Sadigova.
She said that on July 11 A. Sadigov from July 11 went on a hunger strike in the Baku pre-trial detention center.
“Afghan said that he started the hungers strike in protest against the falsification of the criminal case,” S. Sadigova said.
She fears for her husband’s health, since a hunger strike will undermine his immunity, which is dangerous with the outbreak of coronavirus.
A. Sadigov was detained on May 13 and the Binagadi court arrested him for 4 months on charges of extortion by threats.
According to the investigation, Sadigov was detained together with the editor of the publication Xəbərfakt.az Sakit Muradov red-handed while receiving a bribe of 10 thousand manats. Moreover, Muradov was not taken into custody.
