Alternative Punishment Applied to 900 Inmates
Baku / 02.28.19 / Turan: Two years after the adoption of a presidential decree on measures to humanize the punishment and decriminalize offenses, the courts tried cases against 6,000 prisoners. This was announced at a meeting of the Judicial-Legal Council chaired by Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov last night.
It was noted that over 4,200 people were released from punishment, or their sentence was reduced.
In order to expand the use of alternative punishment, the authorities have begun to use electronic bracelets. Their carriers are already more than 900 convicts.
In addition, 6 judges, including one chairperson of the court, were reprimanded for violating the requirements of the law.
Since 2005, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against 250 judges. At the same time, 14 judges early terminated their powers. -05D06-
