Baku/08.04.22/Turan: As a result of armed incident on the Azerbaijan-Iran border, one infiltrator was killed, another one detained, and another one managed to escape.
According to a joint report of the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Border Service, three Iranian border violators were spotted near Sarkhanly village, Jalilabad region, at about 9:25 p.m. on April 7.
The trespassers ignored the order to stop and opened fire on the border guards. Return fire killed one of the intruders, detained another, and another one managed to escape.
The border guards seized a Kalashnikov assault rifle, 2 bags with drugs and a total weight of 24 kg 730 g (9915 g of marijuana, 10650 g of heroin, 85 g of opium, 4080 g of methamphetamine) and 300 psychotropic pills "methadone 40".
The detainee introduced himself as Iranian citizen Piran Behzat Mohammed. The Iranian side is informed about what happened.
The General Prosecutor's Office is currently engaged in investigation and operational-search activities over the attempt on lives of the border guards.-06B-

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
