Another protest of relatives of political emigrants deported from Germany
Baku/28.06.22/Turan: On June 28, two family members arrested after the deportation of political emigrants from Germany held a protest in front of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan. Vahid Karimov, the father of imprisoned political emigrant Punhan Karimli, said that his son is innocent. “My son was accused of drugs only because he is a member of the opposition Popular Front Party and participated in rallies in Germany,” he said.
Nurana Ashurova, the wife of Samir Ashurov, another detained political migrant, also said her husband was arrested for his active participation in protests in Germany. “After the deportation, he was accused of stabbing another person,” said Nurana Ashurova.
The protesters wanted to meet with Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev. However, a representative of the prosecutor's office came out to them, saying that there was no prosecutor general in Baku, so the meeting was impossible.
Over the past nine months, at least five social and political activists readmitted from Germany have been arrested in Azerbaijan.
Malik Rzayev, Mutallim Orudjev, Punhan Karimli and Jafar Mirzoyev were accused of drug trafficking, and Ashurov of causing bodily harm to the victim.
Azerbaijan and the European Union signed an agreement on the readmission of persons living without permission in February 2014. -0-
