Appeals court left Bayram Mammadov under arrest
Baku / 10.04.19 / Turan: On April 10, the Baku Court of Appeal rejected the complaint of youth activist Bayram Mammadov, who was arrested for 30 days.
"I know that I should not expect a fair decision from you, I appealed to come to court and see my friends," the activist said at the trial.
When the judge asked what he was asking for, the activist answered: "I don"t ask, I demand to cancel the unfair sentence".
In turn, lawyer Elchin Sadikhov said that in the detention center Bayram Mammadov was subjected to torture and humiliation.
After a short meeting, the judge announced that the arrest for 30 days was upheld.
* Bayram Mammadov and Giyas Ibrahimov were arrested in 2016 after they wrote political slogans on the Heydar Aliyev monument. Both were sentenced to 10 years in prison on large-scale drug trafficking charges. Human rights organization Amnesty International recognized them as "prisoners of conscience." Both were pardoned on March 16 of this year. After being released, B. Mammadov in the media and social networks sharply criticised the authorities of Azerbaijan.--0--
