Appeals Court Upholds Journalist"s Detention
Baku Appeal Court today dismissed the appeal by the journalist of the newspaper Azadlig and employee of the on-line TV program Azerbaijani Hour, Khalid Garayev, on his administrative arrest. The lawyer Bahruz Bayramov said the court did not conduct an objective investigation.
Recall that on October 30 the Binaghadi Court sentenced Garayev to 25 days of arrest, finding him guilty under Article 296 (hooliganism) and 310.1 (no subordination of police). Allegedly, he stood on the street and swore obscenely and unjustly without an address.
Garayev and his colleagues believe that the accusation was fabricated, politically motivated and linked to the professional activities of the journalist and his active citizenship. -06B-
