Lawyer of Leyla Yunus Sentenced to 240 Hours of Community Service
The Yasamal district court chaired by Azer Taghiyev completed the consideration of the claim from Nuriya Huseynova (former cellmate of Leyla Yunus) against the lawyer Alaif Hasanov.
Recall that the lawyer told the press about the physical pressure by Huseynova on Yunus in prison. His report was published in the newspaper Azadlig on September 17, 2014. Then Huseynova was "offended" that the lawyer called her "a criminal" and "an obstinate criminal."
Today the court sentenced Hasanov to 240 hours of community service for these statements.
Hasanov himself said the decision of the court is absolutely unfair and illegal.
According to him, the Yasamal district court did not have the right to listen to the case.
Hasanov stated his intention to appeal the verdict and bring the case to the European Court.
However, he said that the decision should not prevent his advocacy and protection of Leyla Yunus. -06D-
