Aslanov's verdict distorts the words of witnesses
Baku/08.12.20/Turan: In the text of the sentence to journalist Polad Aslanov, the testimony of some witnesses in court is distorted. This was stated by the wife of Gulmira Aslanova, who saw her husband the day before in Baku pre-trial detention center - 1.
“Polad was given the text of the verdict. He discovered that the testimonies of journalists Kenan Rovshanoglu, Miralam Hashimov and some other witnesses were distorted.
Both journalists in court asked Judge Faig Ganiev to exclude the distorted part of their testimony during the preliminary investigation. However, the judge did not do this and simply rewrote the contents of the indictment into the verdict,” said G. Aslanova.
According to her, the defense has already appealed the verdict.
On November 16, the founder of the website xeberman.com, Polad Aslanov, was found guilty of espionage for Iran by the court and sentenced to 16 years in prison. The state prosecutor asked to be sentenced to 17 years.
Aslanov was arrested on June 12, 2019 and charged under Article 274 of the Criminal Code (high treason). The investigation claims that Aslanov recruited fellow journalists and persuaded them to cooperate with the Iranian special services.
Aslanov denied all charges, claiming that he was being prosecuted for exposing the facts of corruption on the part of intelligence officers.
International organizations condemned his arrest, calling for the release of Aslanov. -06B-
