Baku/23.07.20/Turan: 25 people were arrested in connection with a demonstration in support of the army on July 14-15, reads the message of the human rights organization "Line of Defense".
Nine of the arrested are members of the Popular Front Party, 1 - Movement for Democracy and Welfare, 2 - supporters of the Muslim Unity Movement, 1 - former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR). The rest are non-party.
They are charged under the Article 186.2.1 (causing damage to other people's property), 233 (violation of public order) and 315 (insubordination to the police) of the Criminal Code. The accused face up to 7 years in prison.
By the decision of the Nasimi District Court, all of them were arrested for 3 months.
Three more participants in the action were formally involved under the Article 139-1.1 (violation of the quarantine regime, resulting in the spread of the disease). Two of them are PFPA members, and one is the son of PFPA member Mamed Ibrahim. The maximum sentence under this article is 3 years in prison.
In addition, seven members of the Popular Front Party were arrested according to the administrative procedure. Seven more were released after being detained. The status of three other detainees remains unclear.
The organization does not exclude that the number of those arrested may be even higher.
At the same time, the detentions were carried out with gross violations of the law.
“They were kept in conditions that humiliate human dignity, tortured, and exerted psychological pressure. They also put pressure on their family members.
The arrested were deprived of the opportunity to contact their relatives for days, they were not allowed to see their lawyers,” the document says.
It was not possible to get comments from the press services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General's Office.
The "line of defense" was created in July this year. The executive director is a former investigator of the prosecutor's office and a political prisoner Rufat Safarov. —06D-
