Baku/06.04.21/Turan: On April 6, the trial in the case of Ruslan Amirov, the bodyguard of the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ali Karimli, continued in the Sabail District Court of Baku, chaired by Azer Tagiyev. Five witnesses said that they did not know Ruslan Amirov and did not see him at the street demonstration on July 14-15, 2020.

“The investigating body recognized 22 people as witnesses. Of these, 19 have already been heard in court. All of them stated that they did not know and did not see me at the rally,” said Amirov himself, who is under police supervision for the period of the trial. The process will continue on April 22.

Amirov is charged under the Articles of the Criminal Code 186.2.1 (deliberate destruction or damage to property with causing damage on a large scale), 186.2.2 (the same actions that entailed serious consequences), 233 (organizing a violation of public order), 315 (resistance or use of violence in against a representative of the authorities), 127.2 (intentional infliction of less serious harm to health) of the Criminal Code.

Amirov told Turan that he participated in a peaceful action, but did not commit any illegal actions. “The criminal case against me is political. I did not commit illegal actions, but participated in the action to support the Azerbaijani army,” Amirov said.

Earlier, the PFPA reported that 45 activists were detained in connection with the rally on July 14-15, including 15 were arrested in an administrative manner, criminal charges were brought against 16, and 14 were interrogated as witnesses.

Subsequently, those arrested on criminal charges were transferred to police surveillance and released from custody.-03В06-
