Baku/19.06.23/Turan: As a result of joint operations of the State Border Service (SBS) and Azerbaijani Interior Ministry officers, smuggling of a large consignment of drugs from Iran was foiled.
So, a suspicious 'Chevrolet' vehicle with 77 PX 20 plate number was stopped near the border village Khalaj in Beylagan region during the operation.
Over 102 kg of narcotics and 1,200 pieces of narcotic pills "metadon M-40" were found inside the car, the SBS said.
Two persons inside the vehicle were detained.
They were residents of Ismailly region Gorkhmaz Huseynov (1977) and resident of Binagadi district of Baku Veli Rzayev (1995).
Note that on June 18, at 11:30 near the village of Sarkhanly in Jalilabad region the border guards found 5 kg of 300 grams of marijuana.

One year ago, on July 23, 2023, a professor at the London School of Economics, Qubad Ibadoğlu, was disgracefully detained along with his wife while returning to their residence in the Novkhani settlement from Sumgayit. Their car was surrounded by 5-6 vehicles, and they were apprehended by about 20 individuals in civilian clothes.
