Authorities stop financing two dozen low-circulation newspapers
Baku / 31.01.19 / Turan: On Thursday, a meeting was held at the State Media Support Fund, at which a significant reduction in funding for a significant number of newspapers was announced.
The head of the Foundation, Vugar Safarli, made it clear that in the Internet era there is no point in funding printed newspapers.
In this regard, changes are made to the rules of the competition for media financing. From now on, only newspapers that have been regularly published for the last 3 years, having at least 16 pages in format (A3), a circulation of at least 5,000, with sales of at least 2,000 copies, will be able to count on financial support.
For newspapers published in foreign languages, the circulation should be at least 3 thousand when selling at least half of the circulation.
Safarli did not name a specific number or names of newspapers that do not correspond to these indicators. However, a list of about 20 newspapers appeared in social networks, which are likely to be closed. They are: "Sharg", "Adalat", "Unikal", "Palette", "Paralel", "Azad Azerbaijan", "Hurriyet", "Rating", "Olaylar", "Bizim Yol", "Uch Nogta", " Movge "and a number of others.
Under the cover of the authorities, apparently, there will be newspapers: Ses, Yeni Azerbaijan, Yeni Musavat, Iki Sahil, Kaspi, Baki Khabar, Novoye Vremya, 525.
So far there has been no official confirmation of this or any comments. -05B-
