Azerbaijani Climbers Preparing to Storm Pamir Seven-Thousanders
Four climbers from Azerbaijan continue to climb two Pamir seven-thousanders, Korzhenevskaya Peak (7,105 m) and Samoni, formerly Communism Peak, (7,495 m).
The leader, Sirkhan Mamedov, along with Denis Leusov, Firuz Dadashov and Rufat Gojayev made acclimatization hikes to a height of over 6,000 meters in preparation for the decisive assault.
The President of the Mountaineering and Climbing Federation of Azerbaijan, Israfil Ashurlu told Sirkhan Mamedov of Turan during an evening radio session on August 6, that the ascent was difficult because of heavy snowfall and the threat of avalanches. Nevertheless, the team solved one major problem, spending the night at an altitude of 5,800 meters.
The full team is currently resting at Base Camp. The team is in good spirits and ready for the assault. As soon as the weather stabilizes, the climbers will begin climbing the route to Korzhenevskaya Peak, Ashurlu said. -02B-
