Azerbaijani weightlifter who was evicted from the country, won the Olympic gold medal for Kazakhstan
Azerbaijanian Nijad Rahimov won the gold medal for Kazakhstan in weightlifting in the weight category up to 77 kg at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Rahimov in the double-event lifted 379 kg, setting a new world record. The President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev congratulated him. It is noteworthy that more than two years ago, Rahimov was actually expelled from the national team in weightlifting in Azerbaijan. The reason for this was the criticism of the methods of the coach training the athletes. Later on , his father , a former weightlifter, began to train him for competitions. However, sports chiefs did not like it, and did not include him to the combined team. In response Rahimov moved to Kazakhstan, and there a 20 year-old Nijad has made great success. The Azerbaijani authorities are terribly proud of their achievements, picking up foreign players from around the world, and giving them national passports. The Sports Minister Azad Rahimov presents it as the development of sport. With regard to the policy of the authorities, each minister or oligarch undertakes to lead one of the sports federations, sponsor, and report on progress. In fact, it has the opposite effect. Raiders grab federations, athletes leave the country, and the recruitment of foreign players is presented as an achievement. Thus, anecdotal situations happen. Suffice it to recall the failure of the British Embassy to issue visas to the members of the women's national team of Azerbaijan in field hockey. The reason for the refusal was that eight members of the national team were nationals of South Korea, who got Azeri passport a couple of months ago. -02В-
