Azerbaijanis Protest in Istanbul
Baku / 16.04.20 / Turan: A group of Azerbaijani citizens working in Turkey held a rally in Istanbul against their lack of support from the Azerbaijani consulate.
On April 15, they came to the building of the Consulate General.
One of the protesters, Habil Mammadov, told Turan that due to the quarantine regime they could not work.
“We spent the last savings. After I distributed the video, SOCAR allocated assistance of 200 Turkish liras (55 manat) to each for the purchase of products. But, due to the lack of payment for rental apartments, the homeowners evict us. Hundreds of people are in this situation ... If the consulate does not help us, then why is it needed?” Mammadov said.
In turn, the Azerbaijani embassy said the diplomatic mission is working on proposals to assist compatriots.
“In the near future a decision will be made. According to this decision, it will be determined to whom the money will be paid to pay for rental housing. Preference will be given to students and Azerbaijani citizens temporarily residing in this country,” REAL TV quoted the representative of the Embassy.
In turn, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva told Turan that assistance to citizens abroad is being provided in stages.
Azerbaijani diplomatic missions abroad receive appeals from citizens, include them in their databases, and at the same time transmit information to the Foreign Ministry, which quickly sends information to the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers.
In the diplomatic missions in Turkey, hotlines have been operating for more than a month, where a huge number of calls are received.
Appeals are considered, but it is impossible to simultaneously help everyone.
“If we are talking about paying rent for housing, then calls are made to the owners of the apartments, and the situation is being studied. All money transfers cannot be done in a short time. However, many people have already been helped and this work continues,” said Abdullayeva.
On April 16, at a press conference in the Operational Headquarters under the Committee of Ministers, the head of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora Fuad Muradov said that requests for help were received from 5,104 Azerbaijani citizens who were abroad for study, earnings, and treatment. Assistance was provided to 1,942, Muradov said. –06B-
