Bakhtiyar Hajiyev complains about poor conditions and demands a meeting with the Ombudsman
Baku/19.01.23/Turan: On the 11th day of the hunger strike, public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev's health problems worsened, his lawyer Rovshana Rahimli, who visited him on January 19 in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1.
“His blood pressure is 90/60 and he is losing weight every day and now weighs 74 kg. He has sharp pains in his stomach and kidneys, but he does not stop his hunger strike,” Rahimli said.
According to her, Hajiyev is not satisfied with the conditions in the sanitary and medical part of the pre-trial detention center.
“He said he couldn't find a thermometer to take the temperature. Despite the fact that he has had stomach bleeding for two days, they do not take a blood test from him,” the lawyer said.
Hajiyev asks the local and international community to pay attention to his case, the lawyer said, noting that recently two employees of the ombudsman's office visited Hajiyev.
“He spoke about the lawlessness he faced and put forward his demands. Bakhtiyar wants to meet with the ombudsman himself. We hope that this meeting will take place in the coming days,” Rahimli stressed.
In turn, the Penitentiary Service told Turan that Hajiyev was in the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center under the supervision of doctors.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release from custody. On the evening of December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent appeals from members of the public and family members. However, on January 9, Hajiyev resumed his hunger strike, after the appeal court once again rejected his complaint about the arrest, and continues it to this day. ---03B06---
