Because of hunger Movsum Samedov was imprisoned in solitary confinement

The leader of Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) Movsum Samedov who is serving his sentence in the Gobustan prison was placed to the solitary confinement. His lawyer believes that Samedov was punished for declaring them  on 29 August an open-ended hunger strike in protest against a referendum on the amendments to the Constitution. Samadov said  that amendments  are reactionary, and their adoption would mean the  country's monarchy.   On 3 September Samedov’s lawyer Yalchin Imanov visited Gobustan jail to meet with his client. However, Imanov was not allowed to meet with Samedov under the pretext that the Saturday was not a working day. In fact, according to Imanov, Saturday is a working day for all penal institutions.

The lawyer believes that the real reason for preventing his meeting with Samedov became placing him in a solitary confinement due to the hunger strike.  The lawyer  called it the arbitrariness of prison officers and a gross violation of the rights  of Samedov. Turan failed t get comments in the Prison Service. Samedov was arrested in January 2011 after severely criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities for corruption and violation of the rights of believers. On October 7 of that year, Samedov and a number of IPA and theologians, activists  were sentenced to long prison terms on charges of illegal possession of weapons, trying to seize power, and others.

Samedov  was sentenced to 12 years  in prison. The  European Court started communication on  his case. On  October 9, 2014  by the decision of the Garadagh District Court Samedov was transferred from jail N12 in the Gobustan prison with strict regime for 2 years. Tighter conditions were motivated by the breach of discipline  by Samedov. However, according to some  information, the true reason was the growing popularity of Samedov among prisoners, many of whom began to make religious rituals.—06B--
