Border service stopped two cases of drug trafficking on Iranian border
Baku/10.08.22/Turan: The State Border Service of Azerbaijan has stopped several attempts to smuggle drugs from Iran in the last 10 days,
According to the report of this department for August 10, on July 27, a violation of the border by two persons was recorded near the village of Avash in the Yardymli region. When trying to detain the violators, they abandoned their cargo and fled back to Iran. A bundle with 5 kg of opium was found on the spot.
On August 5, near the village of Gapychymehelle, Astara region, border guards noticed a Mercedes car, the driver of which took a bundle from the bushes near the border and tried to escape. During the arrest, it was established that this was a resident of Agdam, Ilgar Mammadov, who was found to have 6 kg of methamphetamine and nearly 700 grams of marijuana.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
