Businessman protested against the authorities is convicted

Today, the  Neftechala District Court  sentenced a local businessman, Natig Huseynov, to 1.5 years in prison on charges of resistance to the police, according to the  head of the regional NGO "democracy assistance", Emil Mammadov.

The businessman denied the charges, saying that the case was fabricated because of his active civil  position and the protection of  his rights. The prosecutor asked the court to sentence Huseynov to 2.5 years in prison.

Huseynov was arrested in May of this year, after along with three area residents he  began a hunger strike to protest against the arbitrariness of local authorities.

The next day, when Huseynov and two  his sons went to the post office, they were all arrested and taken to the police station. Children were released, and the father was charged under Article 315.1 (resistance to authority).

According to his relatives,  the businessman is being persecuted  at the instruction of the head of the district administration, Ismail Veliyev, who wants to close the clothing market belonging to Huseynov in order to eliminate competition  to own business.

Previously, Huseynov was deprived of a license to fish in the Mil-Mugan collector.

It is noteworthy that Huseynov is second group invalid. He received a disability during the events of January 1990, when he pulled  a Soviet Flag from the building of the District Committee , and was arrested and beaten by the Soviet militarists. He was released only in 1992, when the Popular Front was in power. -06B-
