Convicted in the "Nardaran case" complains of physical pressure in jail
Baku/03.03.23/Turan: Abbas Huseyn, a member of the Muslim Unity Movement convicted in the "Nardaran case", complains of physical pressure in jail No. 1 of the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan, lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev told Turan after visiting Huseyn in a medical institution of the Penitentiary Service. A few days ago, Huseyn was transferred to a prison hospital after he spent 11 days in a punishment cell in jail N 7.
Huseyn told the lawyer that recently the prisoners trained by the administration began to commit provocations against him; and the convicts who stood up for him were transferred to other jails.
When Huseyn protested what was happening, he was put in a punishment cell and was subjected to physical pressure. In protest, he went on a hunger strike and after 11 days he was transferred to a medical institution of the Penitentiary Service.
The lawyer noted that he would appeal to the Penitentiary Service, and apparently to the prosecutor's office. The attempts to contact the Prison Service were futile.
A member of the Muslim Unity Movement, Abbas Huseyn, was detained during a special police operation in Nardaran in November 2015 and subsequently sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of terrorist activity, illegal arms trafficking, resistance to security forces, etc.
Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. On February 9, the ECHR granted his complaint of torture and awarded him compensation. ---06B---

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
