Court extends the arrest of Khadija Ismaylova
Today the Baku Sabail court chaired by Rauf Akhmedov was considered the request of the Prosecutor's Office to extend the arrest of the journalist Khadija Ismayilova for another two months. According to the lawyer Yalcin Imanov, the court partially granted the idea, extending the term of arrest for one month and 19 days. The judge did not explain why he requested such a term.
The investigation motivated the extension of his arrest by not receiving yet the expert opinion, and if the journlist is free, she can make pressure on witnesses. Ismayilova said that the extension of the arrest, just like her bringing to justice is due to her investigative journalism. The lawyer said he would appeal the ruling.
* Khadija Ismayilova is charged under the Article 125 of the Criminal Code (incitement to suicide.) She was arrested on the basis of statements Tural Mustafayev, whom she allegedly driven to suicide. Khadija Ismayilova rejects the accusations, and says that this is due to her professional activities. Mustafayev himself later rejected claims to Ismaylova, but then immediately disappeared.
