Court left invalid of Karabakh war in prison
Baku / 13.06.18 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Rizvan Safarov, dismissed the complaint of Asif Yusifli, member of the Supreme Majlis of the Popular Front Party, to refuse parole. Despite the fact that the court session was scheduled for 14:15, the proceedings were held at 11:00 am without notification and participation of the lawyer and family members. They appeared in court at 14.15, when the lawyer called the judge and asked why the assembled people were not invited to the hall, he replied that he had already held the meeting.
Yusifli was detained on November 25, 2014 on charges of fraud (Article 178) and forgery of documents (art. 320). The victim in this case, Farida Zulfugarova, gave Yusifli 6500 manats to transfer money to the employee of the Ministry of Education Rafig Huseynov. The latter was supposed to organize a higher education for Zulfugarova's son in Ukraine for this bribe. However, the deal broke down, and Huseynov did not return the money to the woman. During the trial, he admitted that he had received the money, and Yusifli had nothing to do with it.
Zulfugarova also refused a complaint in connection with compensation for damage. However, on July 30, 2015, the court found Yusifli guilty of fraud and forgery, sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. Subsequently, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 6 years imprisonment. In connection with the departure of two-thirds of the sentence, Yusifli applied to the court for parole. However, the court of first instance rejected his application.
Commenting on today's court decision, the head of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli called the process secretly illegal.
"Invalid of the Karabakh war Asif Yusifli is not guilty of anything. He is persecuted because he organized a protest in the center of Baku against bringing to the suicide of veteran Zaur Gasanov," Kerimli said.
"The minister, who received a monthly "salary" $ 400,000in the enevelope was not punished, but was made adviser to the president of the Academy of Sciences, and a veteran of the war for 6,500 manats was imprisoned for four years.
Asif Yusifli had nothing to do with this money, he simply transferred them from one person to another. Moreover, the money of the victim has already been returned," Kerimli said.
The mother of the convict Sadagat Yusifli said that the family of the veteran is being tortured. "What else to say to this government ...", S. Yusifli noted ... "-03B06-
