Court of Appeal leaves activist in custody
Baku / 08.06.20 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal on Monday rejected a complaint about the arrest of youth activist Rustam Ismailbeyli.
He was arrested for 15 days on charges of violating the quarantine regime and not subordinating to the police.
According to the activist’s father, the court did not satisfy any of the defense’s motions, as well as the complaint itself.
Now the complaint about the arrest of Ismailbeyli will be sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
At the trial, the young man announced the use of torture against him at the police station.
Ismailbeyli, being the leader of the Student Requirement initiative, was detained on June 1 during an action before the Ministry of Education demanding that students be exempted from studying in the second semester due to cancellation of classes during the quarantine period.
Six more people were detained, who were fined 100-200 manats also for violating the quarantine regime. –30B-
