Court of Appeal sentenced Tofig Yagublu on probabtion
Baku/15.07.21/Turan: Today, the Baku Court of Appeal decided to replace the not served part of the of Tofiq Yagublu’s sentence with a suspended sentence with a probation period of 2.5 years, said Yagublu. The measure of restraint in the form of house arrest was lifted from Yagublu. Yagublu must separately apply to the Nizami District Court regarding traveling abroad.
Due to the preventive measure of house arrest, Yagublu could not go to Georgia to say goodbye to his sick mother, and then after her death - to participate in the funeral.
* Tofig Yagublu was detained on March 22, 2020 in a falsified case of an accident and an attack on a married couple. The oppositionist announced a provocation against him. The investigation did not provide evidence of Yagublu's use of physical force and the commission of an accident. However, on September 3, he was sentenced to four years and three months in prison.
Yagublu went on 17-days hunger strike, demanding an end to the trumped-up criminal charge. International human rights organizations, the EU, the United States called for a reconsideration of the case. Finally, on September 18, the court changed the measure of restraint and placed Tofig Yagublu under house arrest. –06D-
