Court of Appeal upholds activist expelled from Germany
Baku/04.08.22/Turan: On August 4, the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Faig Gasimov, considered a complaint against the arrest of Ziya Ibrahimov, an activist of the Popular Front Party.
He was prosecuted after being expelled from Germany. Deported on May 19, Ibrahimov was detained upon arrival at the Baku airport.
At the time, Interior Ministry spokesman Elshad Hajiyev stated that there were "no political motives" in his case and that he was allegedly "put on a wanted list in connection with obligations to pay alimony."
Lawyer Elchin Sadigov said that Ibrahimov was charged under the Article 306.1 of the Criminal Code (non-execution of a judgment).
“This case is connected with the monetary requirements of his ex-wife. Article 306.1 provides for a fine of two to four thousand manats, or public works from 320 to 480 hours, or correctional labor up to two years, or restriction of liberty up to three years, or imprisonment up to three years. Until now, under this article, no one except Ibragimov has been subjected to pre-trial arrest in Azerbaijan,” Sadigov said.
According to the lawyer, in his file there was a record that he was a “video blogger” and this phrase is underlined with three red lines.
Ibrahimov was a PFPA functionary in the Bilasuvar region. He was persecuted for his activity in the presidential elections of 2018 and for this reason he was forced to emigrate to Germany.
Ibrahimov became the sixth activist expelled from Germany to be arrested since the autumn of the past year. Mutallim Orujov, Malik Rzayev, Jafar Mirzoyev, Punhan Karimli and Samir Ashurov were arrested before him. --03В06--
