Court Sends Report on Az-Qranata LLC for Examination
Baku / 20.12.17 / Turan: On December 19 the Masalli district court annulled the execution of Az-Qranata LLC against the journalist Ikram Rahimov and the realliq.info website on a civil suit. At the same time, the court accepted Az-Qranata lawsuit against Ikram Rahimov, who told Radio Azadlig about it.
In October, Az-Qranata appealed to the court in connection with the article published on the website realliq.info entitled Products of Az-Qranata Dangerous for Life. This LLC asked for a refutation, as well as a fine of 200 thousand manats against Ikram Rahimov and the website.
The Masalli court suspended the claim at the request of representatives of this enterprise.
This time, Az-Qranata indicated only Ikram Rahimov as a defendant. The requirements have not changed - the journalist has to pay 200,000 manat as fine, apologize and publish a refutation.
At yesterday's meeting, the court decided to send the article to the linguistic expertise. The examination has to determine whether or not damage has been caused to the business image of the enterprise. The trial has been adjourned until the results of the examination are received.
The editor of the website Realliq.az Ikram Rahimov was arrested in 2016 on the basis of a complaint in the private charge order from the head of the Sumgait shopping center Ujuz Market. Rahimov published on the website a letter from the complainant, an R. Novruzov. It stated that the head of this shopping center bribed the head of the city's executive power. The Sumgait city court in November last year found both Rahimov and Novruzov guilty of defamation (Article 147.1), depriving them of their freedom for one year. After the verdict was announced, the editor transmitted through his lawyer that he was tortured in the police at the direction of the city"s leadership. On March 1 of this year, the court early released Rahimov and Novruzov. A complaint to the European Court was sent about the decisions of the local courts in the Rahimov case. -0--
