Court to Consider Complaint of Torture from Taleh Bagirzade

The leader of the movement Muslim Unity, a Shiite theologian Taleh Bagirzade was tortured at the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (MDCOC) MIA. In this regard, the defense filed a complaint with the judicial review, the consideration of which will take place on January 14 at 15.00 in the Nasimi district court.

Bagirzade was arrested on November 26 during a special operation in Nardaran, in which two policemen and four civilians were killed. Law enforcement agencies accused Bagirzade and his supporters of an attempt to seize power by force, terrorism, the creation of an illegal armed group and others.

Bagirzade’s lawyer Javad Javadov could see him in MDCOC only on 29 December.

Thus he wrote on his page on Facebook. Javadov was formally presented to his client, but they did not allow a confidential conversation.

However, Bagirzade managed to inform his lawyer that he was tortured for purposes of giving confessions and slander others. However Bagirzade pleaded not guilty and did not give false testimony against anyone. According to the lawyer, Bagirzade has a broken nose.

Other rights of the arrested are also violated. He cannot get food products or clothes from home, or the right to have telephone conversations with relatives. His custody in MDCOC is also a gross violation of the law. For 24 hours after the court decision on measures of restraint Bagirzade had to be transferred from the detention center to the Prison Service, but for almost a month and a half, he has been kept in MDCOC.

"We have filed a judicial appeal against the violation of the human rights of Bagirzade and the use of torture against him. The meeting is scheduled for 15.00 on January 14 in the Nasimi district court. During the hearing, we will request a forensic medical examination to investigate cases of torture," said Javadov.

Our attempts to get comments from the police failed. -06D--
