Detained trade union activist Elvin Mustafayev
Baku/05.08.23/Turan: Elvin Mustafayev, a member of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation under the Democracy 1918 Movement, was detained. He stopped communicating on August 4 and later it turned out that he had been detained by officers of the main police department of the city of Baku. This was reported to Turan by the head of the Movement "Democracy 1918" Ahmad Mammadli.
According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs only confirms Mustafayev's detentions, but does not give reasons.
The Democracy 1918 Movement fears that a criminal case is being “fabricated” against Mustafaev, since he has been in custody for almost 48 hours.
The Movement links the detention of Mustafayev to his trade union activities.
He was also a participant in the food delivery couriers protest on 1 August.
After the action on the evening of August 1, the head of the confederation of trade unions under the Movement "Democracy 1918" Afiyaddin Mammadov was detained. On August 2, the court administratively arrested him for 30 days for "disobedience to the police" and "petty hooliganism."
It was not possible to get comments from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.—06B-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
