Detention Center Leadership Restricts Rights of Starving Tofig Yagublu
Baku / 09.09.20 / Turan: Tofig Yagublu, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces and the Musavat Party, continues his hunger strike for the eighth day in pre-trial detention center-3 in the Shuvelan village. Turan was informed about this by the lawyer Elchin Sadigov who visited Yagublu.
“Tofig Yagublu's condition is not good: he has dizziness, nausea, and severe headaches. He can hardly move. When he came to the meeting, I saw how weak he was and how difficult it was for him to move,” the lawyer said.
According to him, despite the 8th day of the hunger strike, Yagublu was still not transferred to the medical unit.
“Doctors of the pre-trial detention center are examining Tofig Yagublu, but we asked Professor Adil Geybulla to examine him daily. We did not receive an answer, as well as an answer from the Ombudsman,” the lawyer said.
Yagublu is persistent in his intention to continue the hunger strike until the injustice against him is eliminated. The pretrial detention center recommended him starting eating, but Yagublu refuses to do that.
The government has not yet responded to the hunger strike. Moreover, a restriction was imposed on Yagublu's telephone conversations. Even today, despite his scheduled turn, he was not allowed to call home. The lawyer was also prevented from meeting him.
While the lawyers of other prisoners, upon presentation of documents, go to their clients, Sadigov had to wait half an hour.
The lawyer believes that the management of the pre-trial detention center, before giving permission, consults with someone at the top.
Recall that a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces and the Musavat Party, Tofig Yagublu, was sentenced on September 3 to 4 years and 3 months in prison. In prison, he began a hunger strike, which lasts for 7 days.
International organizations condemned the verdict. Amnesty International recognized him as a “prisoner of conscience.” - 06D-
