Doctors announced the threat of coma in Bakhtiyar Hajiyev
Baku / 24.12.22 / Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on a hunger strike for the 10th day in the Baku SIZO-1 demanding his release from arrest.
This was announced by his lawyer Elchin Sadgygov, who visited Hajiyev on December 24.
According to the lawyer, before his visit, Hajiyev underwent a medical examination.
“As a result of a hunger strike, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev’s blood sugar dropped to a critical level, and the doctors told him that he could fall into a coma at any moment. Over the past day, Hajiyev has lost another half a kilo and now weighs 78.5 kg. Since entering the pre-trial detention center on December 9, he has already lost 6 kg in weight. Bakhtiyar constantly feels nauseous. However, he intends to continue his hunger strike until he is released,” the lawyer said.
Sadygov noted that Hajiyev conveyed gratitude to everyone who participated on December 23 in a protest action in the center of Baku in his defense.
He expressed regret over the arrest after the action of opposition politician Tofig Yagublu.
Recall that Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days. On December 15, Hajiyev announced a promise to declare an indefinite hunger strike demanding his release from custody.—06D-
