Emin Sagiyev continues hunger strike for 19 days
Baku / 05.09.20 / Turan: Emin Sagiyev, a political prisoner recognized by human rights defenders, has been on a hunger strike in colony number 6 for 19 days in protest against an unfair sentence.
His spouse Aygun Sagiyeva told Turan about this today after a telephone conversation with her husband.
According to her, E. Sagiev spoke in a hoarse voice, he has heart and kidney pains.
Although E. Sagiev is under the supervision of doctors, he does not allow them to provide him with medical assistance.
A. Sagieva complained that despite the 19-day hunger strike, none of the government agencies inquired about her husband.
The lawyer intends to submit a cassation appeal to the Plenum of the Supreme Court.
Sagiev was arrested in November 2017, and in 2018 he was sentenced to 7 years on charges of drug trafficking on a large scale. However, local human rights activists are convinced that Sagiyev was punished for his journalistic activities by his brother-in-law, the political emigrant Turkel Azerturk. The latter has been living in Europe for several years and has sharply criticized the Azerbaijani authorities on the Azerbaijan Saaty Internet resource.
Sagiyev went on a hunger strike after the country's Supreme Court on August 18 dismissed his appeal against the verdict. The defense intends to file a complaint with the ECHR.-06В-
