Employees of the metro will accompany the Passengers in wheelchairs

Baku/01.02.19 / Turan: For the first time in the Baku Metro, a system to ensure the movement of passengers in wheelchairs - people with disabilities will be introduced. The works are carried out in accordance with the social project of Baku Metropoliten CJSC announced in September 2018, the organization"s press service reports.

The created working group studied the world experience and capabilities of the Bakmetropoliten, and a trial movement was conducted in metro by a citizen with disabilities Jamilya Mammadova. According to the results of the test drive, it was decided that people with disabilities in the subway will be accompanied by its employees - from the entrance to the metro station to the exit from the destination station.

Previously, such citizens will notify the Metro of their intention to drive in it, calling by phone or a specially created Internet program, which will need to be downloaded to the phone as an application. In the head cars of type 81-717 / 714 for passengers in wheelchairs began to allocate special places near the cabin for the machinists. Initially, these cars are not intended for transportation of people in wheelchairs. Since the subway stations built before 2016 (the Red and Green lines) were not intended for people with disabilities, the installation of an elevator in them is impossible. People in wheelchairs will move in special, and purchased abroad devices that can carry fixed passengers on the escalator. The device will be controlled by a specially trained metro worker. A group of such workers are currently undergoing training.

The Purple metro line built after 2016 is also designed for people with limited mobility. At the stations "Memar Ajemi" and "Bus Station" there are elevators for the transportation of such passengers.

Most technical problems have been resolved, and the project will start working soon, the press service informs.

The Metro site also reports that work on creating special conditions for passengers with visual limitations has also completed. In the aisles, halls and platforms of the Green and Red lines of the Baku Metro, there are tracks with a relief coating that allow such passengers to navigate for independent movement.

In 2018, for the first time in Baku, gentle ramps with relief images of a person in a wheelchair were built on the sidewalks in Baku. Ramps are blocked by thumbs, which prevent cars from entering the pavement. Last year several escalators went down in the underground passages of the capital. Pedestrians are forced to walk along high steps of escalators that are not adapted for walking, which is difficult for healthy people, and if physically restricted, damaged escalators become an insurmountable obstacle. Many of the underground passages of the old building in the capital are generally not designed for people with disabilities, and the movement of people in wheelchairs along existing ramps in underground passages is dangerous for their lives due to the steepness and narrowness of the ramps. -0--
