Evacuation of cars in the center of Baku continues
In the last few days hundreds of cars were removed from the central streets of Baku by tow trucks. This operation of "clean-up" in the center began after the launch of an underground garage under the park on the street Fizuli.
Tow vehicles take away cars from the avenues of Neftchilar and Bul-Bul, and Khagani, Nizami, May 28, Rashid Behbudov Street and others. Signs have been erected along the streets stating "parking is prohibited."
These actions are causing resentment among the people who live and work in the center. "I've lived here for 40 years with my father and grandfather. I always park the car in front of the house. But today, it was taken away by a tow truck. It turns out that I have no right to keep the car at my place? For this I have to pay 70 manats?" said a resident of Baku, who lives on the street Khagani.
Motorists are also unhappy with the high prices of new parks - 6 manat per day and 4 AZN per 8-hour working day.
"I am a teacher. This area is home to many teachers and retirees. The salaries are low. If we pay 150 manat per month for parking, or 70 manat for the retrieval of the car, then how will we live?
Internationally, there is no ban on parking along a street or a quarter. Before taking such measures, city officials discuss them with the public. Signs indicate the amount of fines and a warning to evacuate. In addition, there is a practice of free parking on weekends. In Baku the restrictive measures were taken without any public discussion.
At the same time, in Baku the restrictive measures are discriminatory. Thus, in front of the headquarters of the ruling party New Azerbaijan on Bul-Bul Avenue cars can be parked. However, in front of the Akhundov Library that has thousands of users you not only cannot park cars, but generally there is no provision for the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers. On the other hand, parking inspectors were employed at hundreds of parking sites. Now, these people are out of work while the authorities report on the reduction of unemployment. But revenues of the evacuation services and other persons controlling parking have risen. -03B06-
