Explosion on Tanker General Hazi Aslanov
Baku / 25.10.20 / Turan: A rescue operation is underway in the Sea of Azov after the explosion on the General Hazi Aslanov tanker. This was reported to RBC by the press service of Rosmorrechflot.
Information about the incident was received on October 24 at 18:40 - an explosion occurred in the second tank. “The vessel was heading to Rostov-on-Don, having followed before that through the Kerch Strait. It was already at the exit, in the Sea of Azov directly,” Rosmorrechflot said.
The ship's crew consists of 13 people, and ten of them were rescued by the motor ship Sirius passing nearby. Rescuers are looking for three people who are overboard. At the same time, a fire did not start on the ship, and it remains afloat. Three rescue ships, Mercury, Impulse and Alexander Sizontsev, arrived at the scene.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations told RBC that the tanker was empty. TASS reported that the explosion, presumably, occurred due to residual fuel vapors.
The operational group of rescuers in Temryuk is currently organizing a joint operation with the executive authorities to search for the three missing crew members of the tanker.
The press service of Rosmorrechflot reported that the General Hazi Aslanov tanker in distress after the explosion in the Sea of Azov will be towed to the anchorage located about 8 kilometers from the place of emergency.
According to the Vessel Finder service, which allows tracking ship movements in real time, the General Hazi Aslanov tanker was heading from Kerch to Rostov-on-Don, where it was supposed to arrive at 6:00 on 25 October.
The owner of the vessel is the Turkish company Palmali Shipping Agency, the tanker was built in Turkey in 2005, but ran under the Russian flag. The home port of the vessel is Taganrog. — 0—
