Family members of the martyrs of the January tragedy demand satisfaction of their rights
Baku/25.05.23/Turan: Today, the Society to Protection of the Rights of Family Members of Martyrs of January 20 tragedy held a protest action on the Alley of Martyrs demanding the fulfillment of what the state promised them. About 40 members of the martyrs' families walked down the Alley of January 20 Tragedy, laid flowers at the graves and made statements.
The organizers of the action also planned to drive to the reception of the Presidential Administration, but since all participants of the organization are elderly and sick people, it was decided to refuse to continue the action. The reception of the Presidential Administration is located next to the "Ganjik" metro station, away from the Alley of the victims of the January tragedy. The police did not interfere with the action.
The chairman of the company, Maral Zamanova, listed the requirements of the participants of the action to Turan. They demand the extension to the family members of the martyrs of the tragedy of January 20 of the presidential decree on the one-time payment of 11 thousand manats of the sum insured for the death of a serviceman, with compensation for unpaid years (a total of 30 thousand manats). An increase in the monthly allowance from 600 manat to 1000 manat, taking into account the rise in price of medicines and utilities. Expansion of the list of medical institutions at the expense of private clinics treating people of this category on compulsory medical insurance. Provision of free apartments to all those in need and registration in such apartments of those who received free housing. Issuance of special certificates of family members of the martyrs of the January tragedy. Distribution of the decree on monthly payments from wives (husbands) and parents of martyrs (the decree is currently in effect) also to the children of martyrs, M.Zamanova said.
She believes that the concern for people of this category in government departments has almost disappeared, "now the members of the martyrs and ghazis of the second Karabakh war are in the first place. They say "you are from the past," said the chairman of the organization.
"President Heydar Aliyev met with us, we saw him walking by the graves of martyrs, and I. Aliyev never received us," she added.
Maral Zamanova and other members of the organization applied in writing to all state authorities. On May 25, during a protest action, the activist of the society, Maria Velikhanova, called on the president or the first vice-president to accept them. So far, the society has received only one written response from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Citizens, in which it is promised to consider the appeals of members of the organization.--0--

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
