Baku / 30.05.19 / Turan: The Bar association commenced disciplinary proceedings against lawyer Shahla Humbatova. She wrote about this on her Facebook page. "I have just received a call from the Bar Association. They said that disciplinary proceedings were initiated against me. The basis is a complaint of the Prison Service regarding the case of the blogger Mehman Huseynov.
I asked when the proceedings started, but they didn"t answer me, offering to come and familiarize myself with the relevant document," said Humbatova.
On the eve the lawyer said that since January of this year, she has not been allowed to correctional facilities. She complained to the Bar Association, the Ministry of Justice, the Prison Service and the Ombudsman, but the issue was not resolved.
The head of the Bar, Anar Bagirov, told The Voice of America that Humbatova"s appeal is "being studied" and "measures will be taken."
Humbatova binds the restrictions against her with her position of a lawyer in defending the rights of the blogger Mehman Huseynov. The lawyer then reported the fact of the hunger strike and the violation of the blogger"s rights.
The case of Huseynov caused a great resonance in Azerbaijan and abroad, and the European Parliament adopted a special resolution. After that, the case was dismissed, and Huseynov was safely released in March.
Now the lawyer apparently pays for the principled performance of her duties. -16D06-
