Farid Safarli, arrested in Iran, denies espionage charges
Baku/19.06.23/Turan: Azerbaijani citizen Farid Safarli, arrested in Iran, denies the espionage charges against him.
This was reported to Turan by his mother Dilara Askerova, who spoke to her son on the phone for the first time the day before after the disappearance of her son in Iran in March this year.
"Farid said that he feels good. He began to reassure me that he was all right. Farid said that he was not guilty of anything and the accusation brought against him was absolutely unfounded," Askerova said.
According to her, the Azerbaijani government is seriously engaged in Safarli's case.
"The issue of attracting a lawyer will also be resolved by the government. He may have already been hired a lawyer. The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz regularly keeps in touch with Farid. I believe that a fair decision will be made regarding Farid," Askerova said.
Farid Safarli, who is studying in Germany, went to Iran in February this year to meet a girl they met while studying together at the university. Since March 4, Safarli has stopped contacting. Only after nearly 3 months it became known that a criminal case was opened against him in Iran on charges of espionage. -06B-
