Father of the convicted activist confirms the rejection of NIDA Movement

Baku/02.06.14/Turan : Bakhtiyar Guliyev, a member of the NIDA youth movement, who has been sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment,  wrote a statement on leaving the organization. This information, appeared with reference to the press service of the Prison Service and was confirmed by his father,  Samandar Guliyev.

The statement on the website reads that "while in custody, I found myself, and realized that I should not put into practice erroneous ideas of  provocative forces."  Further, he wrote that he demanded that his name be excluded from the list of political prisoners. His father said that Bakhtiar was "deceived"  by the NIDA organization  and  "was under their influence."

"We were never in opposition to the present government , and we want everyone to know this. Among our relatives  therea are some state officials, and Bakhtiyar accidentally joined this organization ," said Samandar Guliyev.

He stressed that Bakhtiyar’s  grandfather served in the KGB  for 45 years together with Heydar Aliyev.

During the trial Bakhtiyar Guliyev did not express signs that had been deceived, and denied his guilt till the end. Last spring seven  members of the NIDA  Movement  were arrested on charges of organizing riots during a rally against the young soldier's deaths in peacetime. In May of this year, they were sentenced to imprisonment from five to 8.5 years. -05B04-
