Former Head of State Student Admission Commission Passed Away
Baku / 09.24.19 / Turan: The first chairman of the State Student Admission Commission of Azerbaijan, Vurgun Eyub, died yesterday, his family said.
Eyub was the initiator of introducing a test system of admission to universities in Azerbaijan. It was one of the important achievements of the government of Abulfaz Elchibey, which put an end to bribery in admission to higher educational institutions.
Eyub was born in the village of Ashagi Gushchu, Tovuz region in 1957. In 1973, Eyub graduated from the philological faculty of Azerbaijan Pedagogical University. He worked as a teacher in the Sabirabad and Tovuz regions, later taught at the specified university, and in 1988 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of philological sciences.
In the second half of the 1980s, he actively participated in the nascent national movement and was one of the active members of the Chanlibel Society.
Eyub became one of the leaders of the Meydan movement, which began on November 17, 1988 - continuous rallies demanding territorial integrity and independence of Azerbaijan. Eyub played an important role in the creation of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan in 1989.
In 1992-93 he headed the State Student Admission Commission. Subsequently, Eyub was the Secretary General and First Deputy Head of Musavat. At the 8th party congress, he resigned from the leadership of Musavat.
The farewell ceremony will be held today until 16:00 in the Khatai district of Baku at the address: 29/42 Ilgar Zulfugarov Street. -06D--
